Teaching Yoga
Intro to Teaching Yoga 00:01:00
This unit will be centered on the teaching of yoga within a class as well as the process that involves working with your students, focusing on the methods and steps required in order to give a good and cohesive explanation of the class. It covers all the basic moves in yoga and how to practice them accordingly. This includes the alignment of the body, how to obtain a proper posture during the exercises and the application of these movements during the class.

In cueing you will learn the most effective methods for working with your students and help them through the practice of yoga. This is done by the use of certain actions like verbal commands, eye contact, placing of the hands, and other things.

This segment talks about the importance of planning the sequence of movements, techniques to use, as well as implementing them in the most appropriate way in order to achieve the best possible outcome. The process of sequencing is divided into 3 sections: Form, Function, and Technique. You must remember that this process is done according to the particular needs and objectives that you have within your class.

This covers the topic of aiding and assisting your students during the practice of yoga along with adjusting their movements during the lesson. Assisting can be classified in 3 components: Verbal, Non-Verbal and Physical. You must always keep in mind that by helping your students in the classes you can build trust and form a connection with them.

Child's Pose, also know as Balasana, is a position where the student must kneel and move their arms forward while proceeding to sit, in this position the person has to keep the knees on the mat at all times.
Downward Dog 00:03:00
This section will cover the downward dog pose. In this position, the student will be placed in a plank position first, then the student will move their hips up and backward until the arms and legs are completely stretched.
Forward Fold 00:05:00
In this pose, the student must stand straight and then will proceed to bend over until the hands manage to touch the feet. This position can be performed in 2 ways: Standing Up or Sitting on the Floor. For this particular position, the person must have a certain amount of flexibility, and the instructor will have to guide the student slowly into the final form of the movement.

A twist Is a movement that can be done in 3 different ways: a Lounge, Seated, and a Supine Position. These movements can be beneficial and work multiple areas of the body while simultaneously developing core strength and flexibility of the student.
Backbends 00:07:00
This type of movement focuses on the back muscles, primarily the lower back. This position can be done in 2 different ways: facing down and facing up. When facing down the student must arch his back slowly and move his face as far as possible away from the ground. When facing up the student must separate his feet and place them near the pelvis, then they must move the waist up while pressing down with the feet and shoulders.
Savasana 00:06:00
The last position is the Savasana, also named the Corpse Position. In this position, the students must lay down on their backs and place the arms right next to the body (at this point the palm of the hands must face up). The instructor will proceed to move the body of the student while in a relaxed state. The Savasana is a position used at the end of every sequence. It is a restful and restorative pose that can help lower blood pressure and relax the body.

In this section we're going to sense every part of our body and take care of it naturally. We'll start sitting in the most comfortable position and breathing normally without altering our breath. We'll start sensing our toes and then our feet, going up through our legs and then feeling our sitting. We'll keep going up through our torso, our fingers, our hands, our arms and shoulders... Finishing in every part of our head, sensing our lips, teeth, tongue, nose, eyelids, eyes... And then we'll keep breathing normally and finish putting our hands together and saying "namaste".

In this section we'll link our breath with our movement. We'll start laying down and becoming aware of our breath. We'll rise our hands and move them above our heads, laying down on the floor and then repeating the movement backwards. We'll do this four times. Then we'll only move as we breath out. We'll repeat the arm movements breathing this way. We'll finish this meditation by letting our arms rest in the initial position.

We'll start by finding the most comfortable position for us and closing our eyes, keeping our body still. We'll silently say to ourselves eight different words, two at a time and then put them all together at the end. As you breath in, think the words in. And as you breath out, think the words out. Repeat it constantly until you've reached the eight words. Then, we'll start breathing deeply and slowly. Think to yourself the word present and the word moment, inhaling the present and exhaling the moment. Then we'll put our eight words together while inhaling and exhaling. Then bring your hands together in front of the chest to end.

We'll start by noticing our own pattern of breath. Where we are exhaling more, where we are inhaling more. Then, we'll place both of our hands onto our belly while breathing and counting. We'll repeat this process until we finish. We'll put our hands on our lap and keep breathing.
Kappala Bhati 00:04:00
We'll be practicing Kappala Bathi, also known as Breath of Fire. This is a great energizing breath to wake up. We'll put our hand on our belly and start to breath feeling how our belly fills while inhaling. Bring your thumb and your pinky together and rise your hands above your head. Keep breathing. Inhale and begin forcing your breath out, out and out, pumping your belly, lungs and breath. Then take a slow breath in and repeat this process. Take your hands together above your head and put the down slowly, letting them rest on your lap. Breath here for a moment noticing any shift in your energy.

This type of breathing is often practiced before meditation. We'll start by putting our index and middle finger between our eyebrows and inhale and exhale, repeating the process. We'll do this imagining breathing in in our right nostril and breathing out in our left nostril.
